My brother just wrote me that he found a strange file called “z.php” in his images directory. He deleted the file, but I started snooping. I found some directories in /tmp that shouldn’t be there, but still digging. I’ll write more later.
LinkSys makes a little device, model number NSLU2. It was designed as a cheap home NAS server that uses external USB hard drives. The great thing about this device is that it runs linux. There is a project underway that has written replacement firmware for it that provides lots of new services. This is a great idea for a firewall/IDS/File Server/Wireless router type of solution.
I’ve got my vocabulary for describing biological taxonomy almost done. Pretty soon, I can start dumping out the ITIS database as RDF! This will allow people to describe the species of animals in their photographs for example.
