Songs to Thee Wisconsin
I was thinking the other day about College marching band and started flipping through my copy of the UW Band history book. I noticed that a few of the songs weren’t in there, or the lyrics are a bit different from how the band sings them. Here is my recollection of the suite of songs that the band sings at the end of road trips.
We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin
We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin,
Wisconsin and the red.
We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin
In our coffins when we’re dead.
And when we get to heaven
We’ll give the Badger yell
And those who are less fortunate
Will give it down in..
Cheer, boys, cheer / Hot Time
Cheer, boys, cheer! Wisconsin’s got the ball.
U-rah-rah! Oh, won’t they take fall;
And when we hit that line, there’ll be no line at all
There’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight.
Late last night, when we were all in bed (whoo)
Old Mother Leary left a lantern in the shed.
And when the cow kicked it over,
she winked her eye and said,
“There’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight.”
Wisconsin Forward Forever
We’ll march on victorious,
Oh varsity, varsity fair.
Her name forever glorious,
will hearten us to fight, do, or dare.
We’ll march on victorious
for cardinal waving on high,
and badgers all will harken to the call
and we’ll fight for wisconsin forever!
Wisconsin’s Pride
We are marching along, and our voices are strong,
for we’re proud to belong to Wisconsin
For the fame of her name, and of world-wide acclaim,
and the freedom’s Wisconsin’s pride.
For along all life’s pathways, at work or at play
we’ll forever her precepts obey.
For the cardinal and white are the symbols (cymbals) of right,
and the freedom’s Wisconsin’s Pride!
Songs to Thee Wisconsin
Songs to thee Wisconsin, ever let us sing,
Praise to Alma Mater, ever let us bring.
Queen of all the west, college we love best.
Queen of all the west, college we love best.
Out up, two three, and drink.
