Songs to Thee Wisconsin

Music — Tim Nowaczyk on July 30th, 2009

I was thinking the other day about College marching band and started flipping through my copy of the UW Band history book.  I noticed that a few of the songs weren’t in there, or the lyrics are a bit different from how the band sings them.  Here is my recollection of the suite of songs that the band sings at the end of road trips.

We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin

We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin,
Wisconsin and the red.
We’ll cheer for old Wisconsin
In our coffins when we’re dead.
And when we get to heaven
We’ll give the Badger yell
And those who are less fortunate
Will give it down in..

Cheer, boys, cheer / Hot Time

Cheer, boys, cheer! Wisconsin’s got the ball.
U-rah-rah! Oh, won’t they take fall;
And when we hit that line, there’ll be no line at all
There’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight.

Late last night, when we were all in bed (whoo)
Old Mother Leary left a lantern in the shed.
And when the cow kicked it over,
she winked her eye and said,
“There’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight.”

Wisconsin Forward Forever

We’ll march on victorious,
Oh varsity, varsity fair.

Her name forever glorious,
will hearten us to fight, do, or dare.

We’ll march on victorious
for cardinal waving on high,

and badgers all will harken to the call
and we’ll fight for wisconsin forever!

Wisconsin’s Pride

We are marching along, and our voices are strong,
for we’re proud to belong to Wisconsin
For the fame of her name, and of world-wide acclaim,
and the freedom’s Wisconsin’s pride.

For along all life’s pathways, at work or at play
we’ll forever her precepts obey.
For the cardinal and white are the symbols (cymbals) of right,
and the freedom’s Wisconsin’s Pride!

Songs to Thee Wisconsin

Songs to thee Wisconsin, ever let us sing,
Praise to Alma Mater, ever let us bring.
Queen of all the west, college we love best.
Queen of all the west, college we love best.

Out up, two three, and drink.

Apocalypse Now

Movies — Tim Nowaczyk on February 8th, 2005

What a crazy film. I have to say the ending was very understated and wasn’t that great, but the acting and the mood of the film kept me interested. I’ve just added Platoon to my Netflix queue to continue with the Vietnam theme.

Matisyahu Concert

Entertainment, Music — Tim Nowaczyk on January 27th, 2005

Last night I saw Matisyahu in concert at Luther’s Blues with Hillary. What a show! The music was full of energy. We ran into Mark Brand from the hash, who was there with his son. Later, I ran into Will McDonald and Matt Hammer from the UPL.

Anime

Movies — Tim Nowaczyk on January 16th, 2005

I’ve found a lot of Anime on alt.binaries.movies in the past few days. Yesterday I watched Ninja Scroll and today, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds. I’m currently downloading Castle in the Sky. I really like Nausicaä and what I’ve seen of Castle. It’s probably because they are both Hayao Miyazaki films. I’m signed up for a free one-month trial of Netflix, and I’ll have to fill my queue up with good anime.

Too much to do!

Climbing, Music, Recreation, Running — Tim Nowaczyk on January 7th, 2005

Montankus is playing tonight at Restaurant Magnus tonight. I would also like to run or climb tonight (I should run since I haven’t since Tuesday). Now, I hear that Lynn and Fritz are going sledding. Argh, what to do!
